What is a Chatbot?

Chatbot

A chatbot is a program that communicates with people using text or voice. It usually helps with simple tasks: answering questions, making reservations, or handling customer support queries.

It used to run mainly on pre-written rules (for example, "if a user types A, answer B"). Today's chatbots use various forms of artificial intelligence, increasingly large language models (LLMs), so they respond more intelligently and naturally.

Keep in mind, though, that chatbot ≠ AI. Most chatbots on websites still run without any AI.
