What is AI?

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that lets computers and machines mimic human abilities: learning, understanding, problem solving, decision making, creativity, and acting on their own. Think of it as an assistant that processes information much like a person does.

The idea of AI is not new. It dates back to the 1950s. The real boom, though, has come only in the past few years, driven by new models that made machines far better at understanding natural language. The breakthrough came mainly from large language models (LLMs), with ChatGPT as the obvious example.

Apple's Siri uses elements of AI too, and it has been around since 2011.
